Sharing accommodation has lowered the threshold for digital entrepreneurship in the accommodation industry, prompting entrepreneurs to join this industry. However, digital micro-entrepreneurs have been ignored by previous studies. To bridge the gap, this study aims to explore the impact of reputational asset (host popularity) and host’s human capital (entrepreneurial entry speed and managerial seniority) on host expansion grounded on the resource-based theory.

This study obtained crawler data by python from Airbnb.com, locking the time range to the past five years from 2013 to 2018 in Beijing of China. This study finally has 348 hosts’ balanced panel data to estimate the ordinary least squares regression model with fixed-year effect.

Results demonstrate that host popularity has a significant positive effect on host expansion. Furthermore, entrepreneurial entry speed strengthens the positive effect of host popularity on host expansion, whereas managerial seniority weakens the positive effect. The three-way interaction analysis reveals that the positive impact of host popularity on host expansion is strongest when managerial seniority is smaller and entrepreneurial entry speed is faster.

The research has important implications to how the platforms interfere with the implementation of host expansion strategy and adds valuable insights to understand the transformation process of host expansion from nonprofessional to professional.

The research has expanded the literature related to the micro-entrepreneurship of the sharing economy and verified the application of resource-based theory under sharing economy.

It is very common that patients become hypothermic after the operation, as large areas of the patient’s body have to be uncovered for the operation. Conventional surgery garments and blankets have been found to be very inadequate in keeping the patient warm during the operation. In this paper, a novel design of surgery garment is reported. The new design has been tried in a hospital and found significantly improved performance over the conventional surgery garments. It provides convenience to the surgical operation, keeps the patient warm during the operation and meets hospitals’ hygiene standard for its machine washability at high temperature.

This paper investigates the design requirements for physical function on developing child patients’ garment. The requirements of style design for physical functions were collected from two questionnaire surveys through personal interviews with child patients and medical staff in the Queen Mary Hospital, the teaching hospital of the University of Hong Kong. Chisquare tests were adopted to test for associations between the responses and a range of variables. The style specifications include styles design for different age groups, sexes, medical needs, design details for top and bottom garment, selection of fasteners and accessories. The results generated ideas for the design of child patients' garment based on their physical needs during hospitalization.

In this study, a methodology integrating a sketch design recognition approach with an interactive genetic algorithm is proposed to help laypersons get clothes reflecting their preferences. The sketch design recognition approach consists of a composite description model, a sketch recognition method and a database. First, a composite description model based on the knowledge of fashion design is developed to describe the characteristics of a skirt. Second, a sketch recognition method is used to help laypersons get satisfactory clothes. Third, a database in constructed to record general elements of skirts. Moreover, an interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) is used to accelerate the sketch recognition process. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can 'recognize' users' preferred styles efficiently. The subjective evaluation has shown that the system can help general consumers without any fashion design or sketch training to create their own designs.

Swimwear is normally designed for swimming. It is should be modified to suit diving purpose as the body movement and the force applied by water to the wearers during diving are greatly different from those during swimming. Major problems of conventional swimwear during diving were found to be insufficient durability, poor fitting and movement of straps and leg parts to inappropriate position, which was largely caused by water going in-between the swimwear and body, resulting a balloon effect inside the garment. To solve the above problems, the design and construction of the swimwear was modified. The swimwear fabric was selected through testing the strength and elongation of a range of swimwear fabrics in order to ensure that the selected fabric can withstand the great force and stretch. The improved diver’s swimwear was found very satisfactory although further improvement may be needed in the future.

Accurate and fitted garment patterns are fundamentally important in garment manufacturing. Even though a virtual body can now be obtained by 3D scanning, the problem of generating patterns model is still challenging because the mapping from a 3D body to 2D pattern is constrained by complex garment style information and sewing definitions. This paper presents a new approach for generating 2D block patterns directly from scanned 3D unstructured points of the human body. The new approach consists of a series of steps from body recognition, body modelling to pattern formation. In the paper, algorithms for body feature extraction and body modelling are first described, then the relationship between the human body, patterns and darts are investigated, and pattern creation through automatic dart transformation are thus developed. The paper has demonstrated that the proposed method can generate 2D block patterns from a 3D unstructured point cloud.

Child patients may feel nervous and stressful during hospitalization, due to dealing with strangers and the rehabilitation environment. A relaxed atmosphere can reduce stress and fear indeed.

This study was carried out to determine its psychological and physical needs of the child patients, their parents and the paediatricians in designing the collection of the paediatiricans’ uni-sex clothes for hospital wear. A preliminary study was carried out with 61 child patients, 113 child patients’ parents and 24 paediatricins on the existing hospital gown and the ideal one.

The results of the preliminary survey showed that identification of paediatricians and childfriendly styles should be highlighted. Therefore, traditional styles, causal hospital styles and causal street styles were then developed. A hospital trial was also made in order to gain direct feedback during the interview in the hospital. The result of preliminary survey was generally accepted. Some design features needed to be changed; such as the length of uniform, colour co-ordination and types of pocket.

The collection for the paediatrician has been finalized by the second survey. 50 child patients, 50 patients’ parents and 20 paediatricians were interviewed again as in the primary survey. And the results indicated that they have different needs for the psychological preferences in style design. For the child patients, they gave emphasis on the aesthetic value; parents preferred the identifications of paediatricians and a traditional image; and, the paediatricians preferred the function of design and the traditional image.

This study aims to assess green food packages’ role in sustaining a restaurant’s curbside pickup service on three stages of consumer experiences: choosing a restaurant, evaluating their experiences of a recent purchase and weighing their post-consumption behavioral intentions after the recent purchase.

The service encounters framework and relevant literature guided the development of the questionnaire. A Qualtrics panel data of 314 valid questionnaires were collected and analyzed with choice experience, ordinary least squares regression and PROCESS modeling.

First, word-of-mouth (WOM) and function encounters significantly influence consumers’ first-time curbside pickup purchasing decisions. Then, service results encounter (besides distributor encounter) most significantly affects consumers’ overall curbside pickup experience. Finally, green food packages increase consumers’ shares of future purchases through their positive WOM intentions and extra efforts of revisiting the restaurant. Consumers’ perceived importance of green restaurant practices strengthens green food packages’ positive impact on extra efforts.

This study provides operational and marketing insights for restaurants to use food packages and sustain their curbside pickup service.

Besides assessing consumers’ evaluations and behavioral intentions for an off-premises restaurant service expected to stay beyond the pandemic, this research uniquely focuses on green food packages, a sustainability issue lacking research attention. The findings add new empirical insights to studies about sustainability and restaurant/food–retail operations.
